Project Director – STRIDES Infectious Disease Detection (Ghana)

About the role

The Project Director will lead the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) activity in Ghana, overseeing all technical, financial, and operational aspects. This senior position coordinates with the U.S. Department of State, Ghanaian authorities, and multiple health sectors to enhance global health security.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual work plans, monitor progress, and ensure project completion on schedule and within budget.
• Manage technical, program, finance, and operational staff, as well as subcontractors across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
• Serve as the primary liaison with U.S. Department of State missions, Ghanaian government representatives, and other implementing partners.
• Oversee technical and financial reporting, administrative tasks, and compliance with policies and SOPs.
• Maintain a safe, equitable, and harassment‑free work environment for all project participants.
• Identify and coordinate technical assistance needed to meet national global health security objectives.
• Provide guidance, training, and onboarding for project staff and ensure clear communication of plans and priorities.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing multi‑sectoral health projects or programs.
• Strong background in global health security, laboratory and surveillance systems, or related public‑health fields.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, international donors, and diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
