Rehabilitation Officer (Mining)

About the role

The Rehabilitation Officer will coordinate equipment contractors and lead the implementation of progressive mine rehabilitation and closure plans at the Iduapriem mine. This role ensures compliance with Ghanaian environmental regulations while integrating agro‑forestry and risk‑assessment practices into the rehabilitation programme.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate equipment contractors to execute on‑ground rehabilitation activities.
• Implement and monitor the mine rehabilitation plan in line with regulatory requirements.
• Introduce agro‑forestry components and manage their integration into reclaimed areas.
• Develop and apply the mine closure plan, including risk identification and assessment.
• Set rehabilitation objectives, targets and a management programme to achieve them.
• Conduct internal audits and short‑term planning to track conformance with environmental strategies.
• Perform heavy‑metal analysis of soil and plant tissues at reclaimed sites and update SOPs for AGA Management Standard.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in rehabilitation within mining, extractive, or construction industries.
• Certificate of Competency as a Health, Safety and Environment Officer from the Minerals Commission.
• Knowledge of Ghanaian environmental regulations, mining & mineral laws, and reclamation bonds.
• Proven ability to work with diverse cultures and maintain professional confidentiality.
• Valid driver’s licence, medical fitness for field work, and ability to operate a light vehicle.
