Remote Software Engineer (Ruby)

About the role

Turing is seeking an experienced Ruby software engineer to help build and evaluate large‑language‑model (LLM) datasets focused on realistic software engineering problems. This fully remote contractor position blends hands‑on engineering with AI research, allowing you to influence how LLMs interact with real code.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and triage GitHub issues from trending open‑source libraries.
• Set up and configure code repositories, including Dockerization and environment preparation.
• Evaluate unit‑test coverage and overall code quality.
• Modify and run codebases locally to assess LLM performance in bug‑fixing scenarios.
• Collaborate with researchers to select challenging repositories and issues for LLM evaluation.
• Optionally lead a small team of junior engineers on project tasks.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years of professional software engineering experience.
• Tech‑lead level competence with complex codebases.
• Familiarity with public GitHub repositories and open‑source contribution workflows.
• Ability to work independently for at least 20 hours per week with a 4‑hour overlap in PST.

Required skills

• Ruby (primary programming language).
• Git version control.
• Docker for containerization and environment setup.
• Experience running, modifying, and testing real‑world projects locally.
