Safety Officer – Underground

About the role

The Underground Safety Officer will provide professional advice, support and oversight of occupational health and safety within the fully mechanised underground mining operation at Obuasi. This role strengthens the safety department and ensures compliance with all relevant OHS standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support and maintain the health and safety management system in line with OSHAS18001/ISO45001 requirements.
• Conduct regular OHS inspections, produce reports and manage corrective timelines.
• Manage risk assessments according to the Obuasi Mine Hazard and Identification Risk Assessment procedure.
• Report to accident/incident scenes, draft incident notifications and facilitate investigations.
• Upload investigation recommendations and evidence of completion into the Workforce Management Reporting System (WMRS).
• Coordinate safety‑related training, inductions and maintain records.
• Audit contractors to AGAG OHS standards and produce audit reports.
• Support Emergency Management Services by developing mock scenarios and producing debrief reports.

Required profile

• Certificate of Competency – Ghana Minerals Commission.
• Certificate of Health & Safety – NEBSOH IGC / CSP.
• BSc degree in Engineering, Physical Science, HSE or related field.
• Valid Ghanaian driver’s licence with ability to drive underground.
• Minimum 3 years experience in an underground mining environment with supervisory experience.
