Senior Finance Controller

About the role

M-KOPA is looking for a Senior Finance Controller based in Accra, Ghana. The role owns the month-end close in Ghana, works alongside the Senior Finance Manager, and has a direct say in how the ERP, planning and reporting tools evolve. It covers a consumer credit book with expected credit losses under IFRS 9, revenue under IFRS 15, inventory, fixed assets and leases, and mobile money flows.

Key responsibilities

• Run the close and turn journals, accruals, provisions and reconciliations into management accounts and financial statements in line with IFRS and group policy.
• Document controls, chase down gaps, apply accounting policy consistently and meet auditors with answers.
• Coach the accounting team while keeping statutory filings, tax accounts and bank and mobile money reconciliations accurate and on time.
• Own statutory reporting and tax compliance, including VAT, withholding tax and payroll tax reconciliations.

Required profile

• Demonstrable record of running monthly, quarterly and annual closes to deadline, including journal, accrual, provision and reconciliation reviews.
• Recognised professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ICAG, CPA, ACA or equivalent).
• Proven working knowledge of IFRS, especially IFRS 9 and IFRS 15, and hands-on experience supporting internal and external audits, including PBC lists and audit queries.
• Progressive supervisory accounting experience and a track record of statutory reporting and tax compliance.
• Meticulous, clear communicator, and able to drive process improvement.
• Experience in fintech, consumer finance, telecoms or another regulated environment, or multi-entity consolidation, is helpful but not required.
