Senior Health & Safety Associate

About the role

Genser Energy Ghana Limited (GEGL) is looking for a Senior Health & Safety Associate to join its corporate office in Takoradi. Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager, the role develops, implements and embeds the company's health and safety management plans and training programmes, ensuring a safe workplace and compliance with legislation, international standards and company requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and update health and safety plans, policies, procedures and standards aligned with ISO 45001, Ghanaian legislation and corporate standards
• Lead hazard identification and risk assessments, and develop emergency, response and business continuity plans, including emergency team roles and drills
• Run the annual training needs analysis, deliver induction, awareness and refresher training, and train and certify emergency response teams such as fire wardens and first aiders
• Embed health and safety requirements in daily operations and projects with department heads, and close out audit findings
• Prepare for and support internal and external audits, inspections and certification
• Support incident reporting, investigations and corrective and preventive actions, and share lessons learned

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Occupational Hygiene or a related field (mandatory)
• Master's degree in a related field or management professional certificate is a plus
• Professional health and safety certification (NEBOSH, IOSH or OSHA) is mandatory; ISO 45001 Lead Auditor is a plus
• Minimum 6 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in power, energy, mining or oil and gas

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Health and safety management software such as SAP EHS, Intelex or similar incident management systems
• Strong knowledge of ISO 45001, risk assessment methods and Ghanaian health and safety legislation
