Shaft Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Shaft Maintenance Technician will support the underground mining operation at the Obuasi Gold Mine by performing statutory shaft inspections, material handling, and other shaft‑related tasks. The role ensures compliance with LI2182, safety standards, and operational procedures to maximise plant availability.

Key responsibilities

• Execute statutory inspections of shafts and related equipment in line with LI2182.
• Transport and sling materials safely, adhering to site safety and environmental plans.
• Gather performance data for the Senior Winder Driver and report to the Shaft Supervisor.
• Prepare daily work checks, pre‑start and shift handover sheets, and log equipment performance in the asset health system.
• Identify and report anomalies, generate work requests in SAP, and assist with condition‑monitoring routes.
• Escalate potential cost‑reduction initiatives and safety risks to the supervisor.

Required profile

• Completed mechanical apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds, National Vocational Level 1).
• Certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines (LI2182).
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a mechanical tradesperson in underground mining.
