Underwriting Officer

About the role

The Underwriting Officer will act as the primary liaison between our insurance brokerage, underwriting companies, and clients. You will provide technical insurance advisory, assess risks, collate quotations, finalise contracts, and manage claims to ensure smooth operations and timely policy renewals.

Key responsibilities

• Examine client insurance activities and underwriting proposals, gather background information, and assess risk.
• Liaise with underwriters to determine appropriate premiums using actuarial data and statistics.
• Collect and compare premium quotations from underwriting companies and recommend optimal coverage.
• Draft and issue policies and related documentation ensuring full insurance cover.
• Supervise proper filing of client documents for easy retrieval.
• Conduct annual reviews of insurance accounts and advise clients on risk mitigation.
• Process and follow up on claims, ensuring resolution within authorized timeframes.
• Coordinate with sales and marketing teams to renew existing policies.
• Provide training to staff and clients and support junior underwriting officers.

Required profile

• Degree in Economics, Insurance, Business Administration or a related field.
• Professional qualification in CII is an advantage.
• Minimum four years’ experience in insurance, with at least two years in General Insurance.
• Strong understanding of insurance terminology across all lines of business.
• Meticulous, tactful, and excellent interpersonal skills.
