Director, Legal Affairs Directorate

About the role

The University of Ghana seeks a senior legal professional to lead its Legal Affairs Directorate. Reporting directly to the Vice‑Chancellor, the Director will provide strategic legal counsel across all university matters and ensure compliance with statutory and internal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to the Vice‑Chancellor and senior management on all university issues.
• Draft, review and interpret agreements, contracts and university policies.
• Represent the university in dispute‑resolution proceedings, including out‑of‑court settlements.
• Supervise external legal service providers to maintain high standards.
• Facilitate disciplinary, appeals and anti‑corruption committees, providing legal support as required.
• Serve on planning and policy‑making committees and review initiatives for legal compliance.
• Perform any additional functions assigned by the Council or Vice‑Chancellor.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and a postgraduate law qualification.
• Enrollment with the Ghana Bar Association.
• Minimum 15 years post‑qualification experience, including at least 6 years in a managerial capacity.
• Extensive litigation experience.
• Proven leadership and administrative abilities, with experience coordinating teams and initiating policies.
• Ability to mentor junior staff.
