About the role
As the Director, Legal & Company Secretary for AngloGold Ashanti's Ghana operations, you will provide strategic legal counsel, safeguard the company's interests and ensure compliance with complex regulatory frameworks across the Obuasi and Iduapriem mines and related development units.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Ghana Legal department, ensuring high‑performance delivery of strategic legal advice.
- Develop and execute legal service strategies that anticipate business needs and emerging legal trends.
- Create structured processes for contract review and legal advisory services to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Manage relationships with external legal providers, controlling costs while maintaining quality.
- Ensure compliance with labour laws, negotiate contracts, and oversee community‑related legal matters such as land acquisition and compensation.
- Supervise environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance in line with sustainability commitments.
- Coordinate company secretarial duties, including statutory filings and corporate governance policies.
- Prepare and manage legal budgets, explore innovative fee structures and control external legal spend.
- Develop and deliver legal training programmes aligned with operational requirements.
- Lead labour and employment law matters, including dispute resolution and internal investigations.
Required profile
- First degree and academic qualification in Law.
- Proven expertise in mining law, environmental regulations and regulatory compliance for mining operations.
- Strong analytical ability to assess complex legal issues and provide pragmatic recommendations.
- Extensive experience in contract drafting, review and negotiation within a corporate/mining context.
- In‑depth knowledge of labour law and experience managing employee relations in large operations.
- Track record of leading legal teams and managing external counsel.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to influence at all organisational levels.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards, sustainability and corporate governance.
