Legal Officer – Banking & Corporate Law

About the role

The Legal Officer provides best‑in‑class legal advisory services to assigned zones, business units, departments and subsidiaries of the bank. The role ensures compliance with policies, laws and regulations while protecting the bank’s interests in all legal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advisory services to assigned zones, business units, departments and subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with policies, laws and regulations.
• Draft, review, negotiate and finalize non‑standard contracts and agreements, identifying material legal and commercial risks and proposing mitigants.
• Take ownership of transactions from instruction to completion, including term‑sheet review, document preparation, coordination of conditions precedent and post‑completion follow‑up.
• Conduct focused legal and regulatory research and prepare clear analyses to support business decisions.
• Review security documentation for credit facilities, ensure enforceability and monitor satisfaction of legal conditions precedent.
• Assist in managing the bank’s litigation portfolio and perform company secretarial duties for subsidiaries, including board meeting support and statutory compliance.

Required profile

• Law degree and a valid practising certificate in Ghana, in good standing.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience in legal practice, preferably in banking, finance, corporate law, litigation or company secretarial work.
• Strong analytical, advocacy and commercial awareness with ability to understand transaction structures and the bank’s risk appetite.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Experience with document and matter‑management tools and approved legal technology platforms.
