Medium Term Planning Specialist – Underground Mining

About the role

The Medium Term Planning Specialist will lead the development, governance and optimisation of 3‑24 month mine plans for a modern underground gold operation in Ghana. This senior technical role translates Life of Mine strategy into executable plans while ensuring infrastructure readiness and compliance with site standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead preparation, governance and optimisation of medium‑term plans aligned to Life of Mine strategy.
• Validate assumptions and assess infrastructure readiness through regular underground engagement.
• Produce infrastructure and development designs, stope notes and mining instructions integrated with short‑term schedules.
• Integrate ground control, geotechnical, ventilation, void management and backfill inputs; maintain Void Management Plans.
• Lead reconciliation and performance reviews to improve forecast reliability.
• Coordinate with short‑term and Life of Mine planners for horizon integration and schedule continuity.
• Provide senior technical guidance and mentoring to planning engineers.
• Uphold site safety requirements and promote a zero‑harm culture.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum five years of underground mine planning experience, focusing on development and production design.
• Training or exposure to mine design software such as Deswik CAD/Scheduler.
• Experience working within cross‑functional technical teams in an underground mining environment.
• Ability to work underground and travel between work areas.
• First aid certificate, blasting Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana, and a valid driver’s licence.
