Director of Engineering, Implementation

About the role

OpenFn is seeking a Director of Engineering for its Services team to lead solution quality, technical strategy, and delivery across its implementation portfolio. This senior, remote‑first position will guide projects from pre‑sales discussions through implementation and final handover for government ministries, health systems, and large NGOs.

Key responsibilities

• Own technical decisions and engineering delivery for all implementation projects.
• Act as the primary technical expert during pre‑sales, design, integration, and deployment phases.
• Mentor and support software engineers and consultants on integration pipelines, local deployments, and solution design.
• Establish and enforce best practices in code quality, engineering methods, and architectural standards.
• Ensure every delivered solution is architecturally sound, fit‑for‑purpose, and maintainable.
• Provide feedback to the core product team to improve the OpenFn platform.

Required profile

• Senior engineering leader with extensive experience in integration, workflow automation, or related fields.
• Proven ability to guide technical teams in remote, distributed environments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the capacity to translate complex requirements into robust solutions.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with government and NGO stakeholders.
