Winder Specialist – Electrical

About the role

The Winder Specialist – Electrical will lead the electrical team responsible for the operation, maintenance and refurbishment of underground winding equipment at the Obuasi Gold Mine. Reporting to the Superintendent Winders & Shafts, the role ensures safe, compliant and cost‑effective performance of the winding system to support the mine’s production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the quality of electrical work on winder and ore‑skip equipment, ensuring compliance with AGA standards, Ghanaian regulations and the site Environmental Management Plan.
• Develop and contribute to safety management plans for construction and refurbishment projects, coordinating with Safety, Refurbishment, Planning and Technical Services managers.
• Supervise, train and evaluate Winder Electrical personnel, ensuring adherence to LI2182 and local approval conditions.
• Collect and analyse operational data to maximise plant availability and minimise risk.
• Provide technical input for operational readiness reporting and localisation plans.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years (60 months) experience in electrical maintenance of underground winding systems.
• Senior‑level expertise with a proven track record in a mining or heavy‑industry environment.
• Strong knowledge of safety, environmental and regulatory requirements in Ghana.
• Ability to lead teams, communicate technical information and drive continuous improvement.
