Fuel Champion – Fuel Management Specialist

About the role

The Fuel Champion will lead the management of diesel fuel across the mining operations, ensuring efficient usage and accurate reporting. Reporting to the Mining Department, the role focuses on monitoring, analysing and improving fuel consumption for both mobile and fixed assets.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and calibrate the Liquid Automation System (LAS) fuel management system, ensuring continuous operation.
• Compare LAS reports with planner data, identify and correct discrepancies.
• Collaborate with planners and maintenance teams to perform cylinder cut‑out and injector solenoid tests, replacing faulty components to optimise fuel efficiency.
• Conduct monthly reconciliation of fuel supplied by vendors against fuel used by the mining department.
• Generate weekly and monthly fuel‑efficiency reports, including burn rates, for key stakeholders.
• Support the development and implementation of policies aimed at reducing overall fuel consumption.
• Train fuel bowser operators, pump attendants and other end‑users on proper use of the LAS system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum three years’ experience working with hydrocarbons.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to operate a light vehicle.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills in English.
• Integrity, professionalism and the ability to work with diverse cultures.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using SAP software.
• Knowledge of LAS fuel management system (advantageous).
