About the role
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Lead will drive the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies and management systems across our manufacturing operations in Ghana. Reporting to senior management, you will ensure compliance with local regulations and promote a proactive safety culture among all employees and contractors.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures and management systems.
- Ensure compliance with Ghanaian occupational health, safety and environmental regulations and company standards.
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Lead incident investigations, prepare reports and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Organise and deliver HSE training, inductions and awareness programmes for staff and contractors.
- Monitor environmental performance, including waste management, pollution prevention and resource conservation initiatives.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, evacuation drills and business continuity procedures.
- Maintain HSE documentation, records and regulatory reports.
- Advise management on HSE risks and recommend practical solutions to improve workplace safety.
- Foster a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Safety or a related field.
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor is highly desirable.
- 3–5 years of relevant HSE experience in manufacturing, agribusiness, FMCG, logistics or an industrial environment.
- Proven experience implementing HSE management systems and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Excellent risk‑assessment and incident‑investigation capabilities.
- Leadership and stakeholder‑management abilities.
- Analytical, problem‑solving and report‑writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
