Mine Captain – Production

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanised underground operation. The Mine Captain – Production will lead the quality assurance, control and risk management functions for all ore extraction activities, ensuring the mine meets production targets and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain QA, QC, risk management and contractor engagement processes for the mine redevelopment.
• Develop and communicate a rolling quarterly plan (4‑3‑2‑1) that outlines production priorities, milestones and events.
• Prepare and submit the annual cost‑centre budget to achieve approved production outputs.
• Deliver mining production activities within approved budgets, timelines, cost targets and KPI requirements.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and foster a culture of safety, health and sustainable development.
• Provide systems, resources and expertise to develop the production team and ensure consistent delivery of budgeted plans.
• Drive project implementation, promote accountability and continuous improvement across the mining department.
• Maintain constructive stakeholder relationships to collaboratively deliver the mine plan.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent operational experience.
• Six to eight years of operational experience in underground development and open‑stope mining.

Required skills

• Broad leadership, managerial and technical competence in underground mining.
• Detailed knowledge of the mining operations value chain.
• Ability to interpret data and make sound tactical decisions.
• Commercial acumen relevant to mining production.
• Familiarity with mining software applications.
• Advanced understanding of safety risk identification and mitigation.
• Advanced application of underground mining processes and practices.
