Research Associate – Environment Social Scientist

About the role

The Research Associate will support the Ghana Risk Modelling Alliance (GRMA) project by conducting field and desk‑based data collection, analysing quantitative and qualitative data, and helping develop learning curricula for stakeholder training programmes. This role contributes to interdisciplinary research and the broader activities of the institute.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑design, implement and analyse questionnaires on disease modelling uptake and related socio‑cultural, economic and political factors.
• Conduct semi‑structured and ethnographic interviews with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Transcribe and analyse interview data using qualitative analysis software.
• Perform systematic literature reviews and adaptation policy analysis, including topic modelling.
• Support logistics and coordination of stakeholder workshops ensuring balanced representation.
• Communicate scientific findings through posters, presentations, reports, data visualisations, publications and popular science articles.
• Collaborate with the team to develop interdisciplinary research proposals and apply for grants.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in social science, development, forestry, agricultural science or related field.
• At least 3 years of research experience, including project work during degree or postgraduate studies.
• Experience conducting stakeholder interviews on policy, agriculture or climate adaptation.
• Proven ability to design questionnaires for policy‑interface research.
• Strong written and oral communication skills demonstrated through reports, publications or presentations.
