Specialist, Database Operations

About the role

MTN Ghana is seeking a Specialist in Database Operations to join its IT Operations division. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise‑wide database environments that support development, testing, and production workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Create and manage databases across multiple platforms (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB).
• Plan, execute, and monitor backup and recovery processes, including daily health checks.
• Maintain disk groups, tablespaces, datafiles, and storage capacity, ensuring optimal performance.
• Implement and enforce database security policies and manage user accounts.
• Troubleshoot performance issues, fine‑tune SQL queries, and conduct regular performance optimization.
• Participate in database upgrades, expansions, and replication setups such as Data Guard and GoldenGate.
• Document project outcomes, share knowledge, and support the IT team with related duties.

Required profile

• First degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in database administration within a technology environment.
• Familiarity with ITIL, COBIT5, and Agile working practices.

Required skills

• Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB.
• Advanced SQL scripting and query optimization.
• Database replication tools (Data Guard, GoldenGate).
• NFS and clustered storage solutions.
• UNIX/Linux system administration and shell scripting.
• Capacity planning and performance tuning.
• Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure administration.
