Backfill Engineer

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanised underground operation. The Backfill Engineer will implement, monitor and coordinate backfill requirements in line with the mine plan, supporting safe and efficient ore extraction.

Key responsibilities

• Establish backfill engineering processes and practices for the Obuasi Mine redevelopment, including operational readiness.
• Provide accurate backfill engineering data for monthly rolling quarterly plan updates.
• Develop and manage the quarterly backfill engineering cost centre budget to meet annual business targets.
• Deliver backfill engineering work within approved budgets, timeframes, costs and KPIs.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and promote a strong safety, health, environmental and sustainability culture.
• Drive project implementation and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Maintain constructive relationships with internal stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines) and external regulators.

Required profile

• BSc in Mining or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum three years operational experience in an underground mining environment, with at least two years focused on backfill systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of underground backfill mechanics.
• Excellent communication skills.

• Proficiency in mining software.
• Experience managing and controlling underground backfill operations across various fill types.
