Child Protection Officer (Junior Professional Officer)

About the role

The Child Protection Officer (JPO) supports UNICEF Ghana’s Child Protection Programme, focusing on integrating climate‑resilient and humanitarian approaches into national child protection systems. The role combines technical analysis, coordination and capacity‑building to improve services for vulnerable children.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen evidence linking climate change and child protection, including data analysis and stakeholder engagement.
• Support the Child Protection and Climate Change study, from data review to dissemination of findings.
• Contribute to a national framework for climate‑resilient child protection systems.
• Provide technical support to embed climate‑related risk markers into the Social Welfare Information Management System (SWIMS).
• Operationalise the Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) Contingency Work Plan and align it with national disaster management structures.
• Mainstream CPiE across sectoral humanitarian work plans (Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, etc.).
• Support coordination and training of National and Sub‑national Child Protection Emergency Working Groups.
• Assist in developing a national trafficking data system for law‑enforcement use.
• Prepare programme and project plans, reports, and humanitarian appeals.
• Participate in inter‑agency humanitarian working groups and discussions.

Required profile

• Junior Professional Officer (P‑2) level.
• Experience in child protection, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction or humanitarian coordination.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government, NGOs and UN partners.
