Clinical Trials Project Finance Officer

About the role

The Clinical Trials Project Finance Officer will oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for clinical research projects at the NIHR GSU Ghana Hub. This role ensures that project expenditures align with approved budgets and donor requirements while supporting multidisciplinary research teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor budgets for clinical trials and research projects.
• Track project expenditure and ensure spending aligns with approved budgets.
• Prepare financial reports, expenditure summaries, and budget updates.
• Process invoices, payments, reimbursements, and other project‑related financial transactions.
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for research projects.
• Monitor budget variances and highlight potential financial risks.
• Support internal and external audits by providing relevant financial documentation.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable financial regulations.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders on financial matters and support project close‑out activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ICA) is an advantage.
• 2–4 years of experience in project finance, accounting, or financial administration.
• Experience with research projects, clinical trials, NGOs, or donor‑funded projects is a plus.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.
