Contract Faculty Intern (Teaching Assistant) - Computer Science & Information Systems

About the role

Ashesi University, a private non-profit university in Ghana, is looking for a Contract Faculty Intern (FI) to support faculty in the Computer Science & Information Systems Department with teaching and learning and other pre-assigned department activities. Interns are expected to support up to three undergraduate classes per semester. The role offers teaching experience and preparation for graduate school or an academic career.

Key responsibilities

• In-class: attend lectures (in person and online), track attendance, liaise with the Hotline and IT teams to prepare tech tools, monitor student participation, and distribute readings before class
• Lead and facilitate discussion and lab sessions to review class content
• Assist faculty with grading assignments and quizzes, excluding final and mid-semester assessments
• Schedule office hours for extra student support
• Coordinate off-site field trips, monitor student safety and arrange transport and meals with relevant departments
• Help develop lessons and do desktop research for lesson plans
• Record online classes and share the links with students
• Report student behavioural, participation and attendance concerns to the Hotline team

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree required
• Experience in educational administration or higher education is a plus
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to analyze, synthesize and summarize information
• Reliable, dependable and able to work independently and as a team member

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Comfortable learning new technology tools such as Canvas (LMS) and student information systems, and able to teach others to use them
