Cyanide Champion – Environmental Compliance Lead

About the role

The Cyanide Champion will lead the implementation and monitoring of cyanide management practices at the Obuasi Gold Mine, ensuring full compliance with International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) standards and Ghanaian regulations. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Processing, you will act as the primary point of contact for all cyanide‑related matters.

Key responsibilities

• Promote health, safety and environmental actions, including proper housekeeping and PPE provision for cyanide handling.
• Deliver cyanide awareness training to mine staff, visitors and the local community.
• Coordinate cyanide procurement, stock management, and emergency cabin supplies.
• Investigate environmental incidents, prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain and calibrate cyanide‑related instruments and oversee the cyanide sparging facility.
• Prepare and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other compliance documentation.
• Liaise with auditors to achieve and sustain ICMI certification.

Required profile

• Experienced and self‑motivated professional with a strong background in environmental compliance within mining.
• Demonstrated ability to lead training programs and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Familiarity with Ghanaian legal instruments (e.g., LI 2182) and ICMI guidelines.
