Director of Internal Audit

About the role

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Internal Audit Directorate. Reporting to the Audit Committee, the Director will ensure compliance with the Internal Audit Agency Act and the Public Financial Management Act, providing independent assurance on the university’s financial and operational processes.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and execute periodic internal audits across all university units.
• Prepare and present audit findings, recommendations and reports to the Audit Committee.
• Develop audit policies, procedures and standards in line with statutory requirements.
• Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and assess corrective actions.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to the internal audit team.

Required profile

• Professional accounting or finance qualification (e.g., ICA, ACCA, CIMA, CIJA, CIA) and a relevant postgraduate degree.
• Minimum of 3 years experience as Principal Internal Auditor, Deputy Internal Auditor, or similar senior audit role within a university or comparable institution, OR at least 15 years post‑qualification experience in a reputable audit/accounting firm, industry, commerce or public service.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, strong managerial and organisational skills, and effective communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency in audit methodologies and standards.
• Strong knowledge of Ghanaian public financial management regulations.
• Digital literacy for audit software and data analysis tools.
