Director of Internal Audit

About the role

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani is seeking a Director of Internal Audit to lead its Internal Audit Directorate. Reporting to the Audit Committee, the Director will ensure the university’s financial operations comply with the Internal Audit Agency Act, 2003 and the Public Financial Management Act, 2016.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the university’s internal audit plan in line with statutory requirements.
• Conduct periodic audits of financial and operational processes and present findings to the Audit Committee.
• Oversee and mentor the internal audit team, ensuring high‑quality audit work and adherence to professional standards.
• Monitor compliance with relevant laws, regulations and internal policies.
• Provide risk‑based recommendations to improve governance, efficiency and effectiveness.

Required profile

• Professional accounting qualification and a relevant postgraduate degree.
• Membership of a recognized accounting/finance body (e.g., ICA, ACCA, CIMA, CIJA, CIA).
• Minimum 3 years experience as Principal Internal Auditor, Deputy Internal Auditor or similar role in a university or comparable institution, or 15 years post‑qualification experience in a reputable audit/accounting firm, industry or public service.
• Dynamic, self‑motivated, strong judgment, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, managerial capability and digital literacy.
