Electrical Engineer

About the role

The Electrical Engineer will oversee inspection, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure across surface and underground mining operations. The role focuses on maximising equipment reliability, minimising downtime and ensuring compliance with engineering standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of underground E&I infrastructure, including transformers, switchgear, HV/MV/LV panels and substations.
• Perform and analyse insulation resistance testing of cables and motors.
• Diagnose and repair faults in motors, drives and protection systems such as VFDs, contactors and soft starters.
• Maintain operational integrity of critical pump motors, conveyor drives and fans.
• Implement condition monitoring programmes, including thermographic scanning of switchgear and busbars.
• Prepare maintenance reports, test records and engineering documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or Diploma with 10 years experience) and 3–5 years relevant experience, preferably in mining.
• Sectional Engineer or Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licence from the Ghana Institution of Engineering or IET‑GH.
• Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making and communication skills; ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
