Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanised underground operation. The Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling will lead the engineering function responsible for the design, maintenance and optimisation of paste‑fill plants, conveyor systems, crushers and chutes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the safety management plan for paste‑fill and material‑handling assets.
• Provide technical input to maintenance, refurbishment, planning and construction managers to ensure safe and efficient execution of projects.
• Monitor and drive performance to achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no public disclosures.
• Optimise energy consumption per unit of production within the superintendent’s sphere of influence.
• Establish and lead the engineering team, ensuring the organisational structure supports the mine services maintenance strategy.
• Communicate policies and procedures, develop skills matrices, identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Advise refurbishment project teams on best‑practice engineering and construction solutions.
• Review, approve and sign‑off detailed refurbishment execution plans, testing, commissioning and hand‑over documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in engineering supervision within underground mining operations.
• Self‑motivated and able to lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of safety standards and integrated management systems.
• Ability to develop succession plans and support staff development.

Required skills

• Knowledge of paste‑fill plant operations and maintenance.
• Experience with underground conveyor, crusher and chute systems.
