Fresh & Prepared Foods Co‑Ordinator – Deli

About the role

The Fresh & Prepared Foods Co‑Ordinator will lead the strategic growth, innovation and operational excellence of the deli category. Working closely with buying, store operations and marketing, you will shape a customer‑centric food offering that drives sales, protects margins and reduces waste across multiple stores.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a forward‑thinking category strategy aligned to customer trends and business growth objectives.
• Drive sales, gross margin and contribution targets through pricing, promotions and optimal product mix.
• Identify white‑space opportunities, emerging food trends and lead innovation pipelines.
• Lead the development and rollout of hot and cold deli solutions, seasonal ranges and value‑added offerings.
• Ensure strict recipe compliance, portion control and structured production planning to maintain cost control and consistency.
• Enhance in‑store theatre, visual merchandising and food presentation to create a compelling fresh‑food experience.
• Provide strategic guidance and operational support to Deli Managers, aligning production plans with sales forecasts and promotional calendars.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (essential) and a Diploma or Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or a level‑4+ culinary qualification.
• 3‑5 years as a Sous Chef or 5‑7 years of management experience in a retail deli, canteen, unit or catering environment.
• Proven experience managing margin, waste and overall operational performance.
• Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and merchandising principles.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Experience using SAP.
• Experience with Power BI and other retail BI systems.
