Junior Forester

About the role

The Junior Forester will support the planning, establishment, maintenance, protection and monitoring of forest plantations and natural forest resources within large‑scale restoration projects. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience in field operations, data collection and sustainable forest management.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in establishing, maintaining and managing forest plantations.
• Monitor tree growth, survival rates and overall plantation health.
• Supervise planting, re‑planting, weeding, pruning, thinning and other silvicultural activities.
• Ensure field operations follow approved forestry standards and company procedures.
• Support implementation of environmental management and sustainability programmes.
• Ensure compliance with forestry regulations, environmental standards and company policies.
• Monitor plantations for pest infestations, diseases, illegal activities and fire risks.
• Assist with fire prevention and control measures and forest security activities.
• Help supervise field workers, contractors and casual labourers, monitoring productivity and quality.
• Promote health, safety and environmental compliance during toolbox meetings and safety briefings.

Required profile

• Interest in forestry, conservation and environmental sustainability.
• Willingness to work outdoors in remote field locations.
• Basic understanding of silvicultural practices and forest inventory methods.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Good observational skills and attention to detail.
• Team‑oriented attitude with the ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
