ESG Manager – Oti Region, Ghana

About the role
The ESG Manager will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of WIBEXLY’s Environmental, Social and Governance strategy for an environmental project in Ghana’s Oti Region. This senior position serves as the primary point of contact for local institutional stakeholders, traditional authorities, and affected communities, ensuring compliance with national laws and international ESG standards.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the main liaison with national, regional, and district government bodies to secure permits and ensure statutory and ESG compliance.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with chiefs, queen mothers, and customary landowners, overseeing land access negotiations, FPIC processes, and compensation frameworks.
- Design and execute stakeholder engagement plans, grievance mechanisms, social impact assessments, resettlement plans, and community development initiatives.
- Develop and manage the ESG management system, policies, risk assessments, reporting, and compliance with Ghanaian legislation, lender requirements, and standards such as IFC Performance Standards and the Equator Principles.
- Monitor stakeholder sentiment, identify emerging social, political, and land‑related risks, and lead mitigation and incident‑response actions.
- Advise senior leadership on government, community, and socio‑political matters, integrating ESG considerations into operational decisions.
- Collaborate with Legal, Operations, Security, Finance, and Government Affairs while mentoring community‑relations teams.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- 7–10 years of experience in ESG, stakeholder engagement, government relations, or community relations.
- Proven ability to work with traditional authorities and navigate customary land governance in Ghana.
- Strong understanding of international ESG frameworks and Ghanaian regulatory environment.
Required skills
- Knowledge of IFC Performance Standards and Equator Principles.
- Experience with land access negotiations, FPIC processes, and compensation frameworks.
- Ability to develop ESG policies, risk assessments, and reporting mechanisms.
