Lead AI Engineer – Financial Inclusion

About the role

We are looking for our first Lead AI Engineer to head a brand‑new AI Operations team at M‑KOPA. You will own delivery, grow the function and prove the value of AI‑driven automations that empower internal teams and accelerate financial inclusion across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Lead two AI Ops Engineers, overseeing their delivery, development and day‑to‑day work.
• Prioritise competing requests from multiple internal teams using a clear prioritisation framework.
• Build and ship automations and AI agents that measurably improve how internal and customer‑facing staff work.
• Maintain the health of the AI tooling stack as usage scales across 2,500+ employees.
• Stay current on emerging AI tools and technologies, distinguishing hype from useful solutions.
• Help refine AI training for the wider organisation, including engineering teams.

Required skills

• Claude and Claude Code
• Anthropic tooling
• LangChain
• MCP
• Google ADK (or similar agentic tooling)
• Scripting and workflow tools
• AI‑assisted development and rapid prototyping (e.g., Vercel, Railway)
• Identity automation with Entra
• Integration experience with Notion and HiBob
