Lead Data Engineer

About the role

Ecobank is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to drive the design, delivery, and operational excellence of its enterprise data platforms. Reporting to the Head of Data & Analytics, you will lead a team of data engineers and ensure trusted, scalable, and secure data is available for analytics, regulatory reporting, and advanced use cases across the Group.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the data engineering roadmap aligned with the Group’s data strategy.
• Architect and evolve enterprise‑scale platforms, including Lakehouse and data warehouse solutions.
• Provide solution design leadership for API integration, hybrid and multi‑cloud environments.
• Establish and enforce standards for data ingestion, modelling, processing, and delivery.
• Drive adoption of AI/ML, advanced analytics, and real‑time data pipelines.
• Partner with business leaders and affiliates to translate strategic requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Shape data governance, privacy, and security frameworks to meet regulatory and risk standards.
• Build and mentor a high‑performing data engineering team, fostering capability uplift and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in data engineering or related fields.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across business units, affiliates, and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to translate complex business demands into robust, scalable data solutions.
• Track record of continuous improvement, platform monitoring, and operational control.
