Lifeguard

About the role

Groupe Sebastien manages several brands including restaurants, outdoor catering and school catering. Its restaurant, the Sandbox Beach Club, is a beach resort in Ghana with a view of the Atlantic Ocean. The employer is looking for an experienced, well-trained swimmer to survey bodies of water and conduct rescues so that weak or injured swimmers can reach safety.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise swimming activities at the aquatics facility and make sure policies, guidelines and safety procedures are followed.
• Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies.
• Administer first aid, rescue swimmers in distress and give CPR and/or artificial respiration if needed.
• Evaluate conditions for safety and start the aquatics emergency action plan when required.
• Inspect pool facilities, equipment and water to ensure they are safe and usable.
• Help clean the pool and related facilities, assist with chlorine residual water tests, record water test results and accident records, and add chemicals to the pool water as directed.
• Instruct or assist swimming classes in swimming fundamentals when needed.
• Resolve scheduling conflicts so that the pool remains safe when competing programmes need its use.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of related work experience.
• Certification from the Ghana Lifesaving and Diving Association.
• Ability to judge and adapt programmes to keep visitors and staff safe.
• Good communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of water conditions at aquatics facilities, beaches, oceans and other natural pools, streams or rivers.
• Swimming proficiency and comfort in all water conditions.
• Ability to assess the capabilities and risks of people in the water.
• Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures and safety policies.
• Knowledge of on-site emergency medical service methods and techniques.

What we offer

• A monthly salary of GHS 1,500 to GHS 1,800 for qualified candidates, plus other allowances.
