Mine Captain – Production

About the role

The Mine Captain – Production will lead the quality assurance, control and risk management functions for underground ore extraction at the Obuasi Gold Mine. Reporting to senior management, this role ensures that mining activities meet regulatory standards, budget targets and safety expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain QA/QC, risk management and contractor engagement processes for the mine redevelopment.
• Develop and communicate a rolling quarterly (4‑3‑2‑1) production plan, identifying priorities, milestones and events.
• Prepare the annual cost‑centre budget and deliver production outputs within approved budgets, timelines and KPIs.
• Demonstrate safety leadership, promote a strong safety culture and integrate environmental management into production plans.
• Provide systems, resources and expertise to develop the production team and ensure consistent delivery of budgeted plans.
• Drive project implementation, continuous improvement and accountability across the mining department.
• Build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the mine plan.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent operational experience.
• Six to eight years of operational experience in underground development and open‑stope mining.
• Valid Mine Captain’s Certificate of Competency (or equivalent) as required by the Minerals Commission.
• Strong leadership, managerial and technical abilities relevant to underground mining.
• Proven commercial acumen and ability to interpret data for tactical decision‑making.
