Mobile Crane Operator – Mining

About the role

Gold Fields Ghana is looking for an experienced Mobile Crane Operator to join the Engineering team at its Tarkwa mining site. Reporting to the Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient lifting, loading and transport of heavy items across the operation.

Key responsibilities

• Drive, position and set up mobile cranes and booms.
• Dismantle counterweights and prepare cranes for travel.
• Interpret electrical and PI&D diagrams for crane operations.
• Ensure safe lifting and transport of heavy loads.
• Respond quickly to maintenance issues and support repairs.
• Operate anti‑two block devices, boom angle, load and length indicators.
• Coordinate procedures required for task execution.
• Maintain good housekeeping and a safe working environment around cranes.

Required profile

• Minimum Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
• At least three years of mobile crane operating experience in a mining or plant environment.
• Valid Ghanaian driver’s licence and accredited mobile crane operator licence (E1A).
• Mincom competency certificate and familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182) for cranes.

Required skills

• Operation of 60 ton P&H cranes and Groove cranes above 45 ton.
• Forklift and Hiab operation (advantageous).
• Knowledge of power transfer, loading and lifting principles for cranes.
• Proficiency with anti‑two block devices, boom angle, rated load and boom length indicators.
• Strong oral and written communication in English.
