Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs)

About the role

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) serves as the chief academic advisor to the Vice‑Chancellor and Council, overseeing all academic and student matters across the university. Reporting directly to the Vice‑Chancellor, this senior leader provides strategic direction for teaching, research and service programmes at undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Academic Deans and ensure compliance with university policies, statutes and national regulations.
• Collaborate with Deans and Programme Directors to maintain and enhance quality of curricula, research output and community service.
• Recommend appointments of academic staff for teaching and research positions.
• Chair statutory committees as required by university statutes.
• Develop and implement the university’s academic vision in line with its mission and strategic goals.

Required profile

• Professor‑rank academic with extensive experience in teaching, research and university administration.
• Holder of a PhD with a proven record of scholarly achievement and academic leadership.
• Deep appreciation of collegial governance and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff and external partners.
• Understanding of emerging instructional technologies and contemporary higher‑education issues.
• Prior senior academic leadership experience, at least at the level of Dean.
