Procurement Category Manager – Packaging

About the role

GBfoods Africa is seeking a Procurement Category Manager for Packaging to lead the development and execution of the packaging sourcing strategy across Africa. Reporting to the Procurement Director, you will drive sustainable procurement initiatives, manage supplier relationships, and align packaging solutions with business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Define short, medium and long‑term packaging sourcing strategy based on category management principles.
• Monitor global trends in packaging raw materials (paper, plastics, aluminum, glass, resins, additives).
• Develop supply and cost transparency models and create a sourcing map covering local, regional and import options.
• Own category budgeting, savings delivery and total cost of ownership visibility.
• Manage procurement risk related to regulations, duties, market dynamics and force majeure events.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align packaging strategy with business plans and new product development.
• Drive packaging innovation and sustainable sourcing in partnership with R&D and key suppliers.
• Lead supplier relationship management, negotiations, contracting and governance across Africa.
• Support country procurement teams in deploying category strategies and ensure continuity of critical supplies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in category management or strategic sourcing, preferably in packaging or FMCG.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to develop cost models and market analyses.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Detail‑oriented, action‑oriented and capable of solving complex problems.
