Senior Specialist - Mining Projects

About the role

The Senior Specialist - Mining Projects supports the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of underground infrastructure and capital projects at the Obuasi Mine. The role integrates project scopes, designs, schedules and construction with planning systems and aligns them with operational and strategic priorities. It provides technical oversight and coordination of project execution within assigned mining blocks, with close work with engineering, planning, operations and contractors. The position is based at site in Ghana and is a fixed-term appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate mining construction drawings for infrastructure, installations and upgrades, and maintain and update mine services and reticulation line drawings.
• Allocate at least 30% of time to site safety compliance and maintain at least 30% underground presence to validate designs and support execution teams.
• Develop, maintain and apply project documentation, risk assessments and Project Work Instructions, and take part in planning forums and coordination meetings.
• Coordinate the planning, review and execution tracking of underground capital projects, including integration of designs and sequencing into Deswik systems.
• Monitor underground project progress and coordinate with operational teams and contractors to ensure approved scope, schedule and safety.
• Support capital project evaluation, design reviews, proposal preparation (including cost estimates and AFE documentation) and expenditure monitoring against budget.
• Contribute to business improvement initiatives and mentoring of the project engineering team.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline; additional training in project management or underground infrastructure planning is desirable.
• PMP or GHIE certification is an advantage.
• Minimum 7 years' experience in underground mining, with exposure to infrastructure or project-focused roles.
• Working knowledge of capital project evaluation, mine services design and underground project execution.
• Familiarity with integrating drill designs and infrastructure layouts into mine planning software, and with alliance-style contractor-owner environments.
• Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Deswik CAD and MS Excel; familiarity with Deswik Scheduler is an advantage.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical mindset and ability to work underground and in an office environment.
