Year 1 Teacher

About the role

The Year 1 Teacher will deliver engaging lessons that build core skills in literacy, numeracy, science and social studies for early primary learners in the Weija‑Gbawe Municipal District.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare lesson plans aligned with the curriculum.
• Teach literacy, numeracy, science and social studies to Year 1 learners.
• Assess learner progress and maintain accurate records.
• Provide feedback to learners and families.
• Create a positive classroom environment and manage behaviour.
• Support individual learning needs and integrate play‑based activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues on school activities and events.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions and contribute to school initiatives.

Required profile

• Relevant teaching qualification or diploma/degree in Education, Early Childhood Education or a related field.
• Proven classroom teaching experience with early primary or lower primary learners.
• Strong lesson‑planning, classroom‑management and learner‑assessment skills.
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to create inclusive, learner‑centered and engaging classroom environments.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, attend professional development and support school activities.
• Familiarity with the Ghanaian primary curriculum or similar standards is an advantage.
