Deputy Director of General Services

About the role

The Deputy Director of General Services will support the Director in delivering efficient, compliant, and safe facility services for Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. This senior position oversees estates, assets, equipment, and related support systems, ensuring they meet legislative, regulatory, and hospital standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in optimizing biomedical and civil engineering services.
• Coordinate with contractors and specialists to ensure safe, timely patient‑care facilities.
• Manage change initiatives, facility improvement projects, and process enhancements across departments.
• Oversee scheduling and supervision of external contractors.
• Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and procurement documents for civil and biomedical projects.
• Supervise site works performed by outside contractors.
• Develop standards for cost‑effective energy‑management systems and supervise their operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Ensure proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in line with regulations.
• Contribute to strategic planning, forecasting future facilities needs, and proposing viable solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of General Services.

Required profile

• BSc in Biomedical, Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) plus MSc in a relevant field, or vice‑versa.
• Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers.
• At least 12 years of relevant experience, including 5 years post‑qualification in a senior management role.
• Demonstrated leadership, professional development, and training in project or construction management.
• Experience in operational and strategic planning, budget development, and project evaluation.
