Director of Legal Affairs

About the role

The University of Ghana seeks a senior legal professional to lead its Legal Affairs Directorate. Reporting directly to the Vice‑Chancellor, the Director will ensure that all university activities comply with legal standards and support the institution’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal advice on all university matters.
• Draft, review, and interpret agreements and policies involving the university.
• Represent the university in dispute resolution, including out‑of‑court settlements.
• Supervise external legal service providers to maintain high standards.
• Facilitate disciplinary, appeals, and anti‑corruption board proceedings.
• Serve on planning and policy‑making committees.
• Review university initiatives for legal compliance.
• Perform any additional functions assigned by the Council or Vice‑Chancellor.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
• Post‑graduate degree in Law.
• Enrollment with the Ghana Bar Association.
• Minimum 15 years post‑qualification experience, including at least 6 years in a managerial role.
• Extensive litigation experience.
• Proven leadership and administrative abilities, with experience coordinating teams and initiating policies.
