Extended Term Consultant – Data Scientist/Applied Economist

About the role

The World Bank is seeking an Extended Term Consultant to work at the intersection of applied research and operations, translating data and analysis into policy‑relevant decisions for private‑sector development in West and Central Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Produce firm‑level and macro‑financial diagnostics that shape new lending operations and advisory engagements across Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and CEMAC countries.
• Analyze large firm‑level and trade datasets to deliver both just‑in‑time analytics and deeper applied research projects.
• Draft analytical notes, background papers and evidence‑based narratives to support reform prioritisation and demonstrate job‑creation impact.
• Support preparation and supervision of lending operations, ensuring technical findings are reflected in project design.
• Monitor financial sector developments, create regular presentations and coordinate with global teams to refine monitoring tools.

Required profile

• Recently completed Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy or related field (PhD a plus).
• 3‑5 years of experience with firm‑level or bank‑level micro‑data analysis.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, familiarity with statistical tools such as Stata or R.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English; working knowledge of French highly desirable.
• Genuine interest in private‑sector development and job creation in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
