Lead AI Automation Engineer

About the role

We are looking for our first Lead AI Automation Engineer to head a brand‑new AI Operations team at M‑KOPA. You will design, ship and scale intelligent automations and AI agents that support over 2,300 employees across our global operations, helping millions of customers access credit and digital services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor two AI Ops Engineers, overseeing their day‑to‑day delivery and professional growth.
• Prioritise and manage competing automation requests from multiple internal teams using a clear prioritisation framework.
• Build, test and deploy AI‑driven automations and agents that measurably improve internal workflows and customer‑facing processes.
• Maintain the health and scalability of the AI tooling stack for 2,500+ users.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging AI technologies, distinguishing hype from practical solutions.
• Collaborate with Engineering to embed AI capabilities into customer‑facing products and refine AI training across the organisation.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience delivering production‑grade AI automations or agents in a fast‑moving environment.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing small technical teams.
• Ability to translate business needs into clear technical specifications and prioritisation.
• Passion for mission‑driven technology that expands financial inclusion in emerging markets.

Required skills

• AI & Agentic frameworks: Claude, Claude Code, Anthropic tooling, LangChain, MCP, Google ADK (or similar).
• Automation & prototyping: scripting, workflow tools, AI‑assisted development, rapid prototyping platforms such as Vercel or Railway.
• Enterprise tooling: Identity automation (Entra), Notion, HiBob integrations.
