Privacy Specialist

About the role

The Privacy Specialist will lead Telecel Ghana’s privacy program, ensuring compliance with Ghanaian data protection laws and international regulations such as GDPR and CCPA/CPRA. Reporting to senior leadership, the role shapes privacy strategy, conducts risk assessments, and embeds a privacy‑first culture across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain privacy policies, procedures, guidelines and controls.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for new products, services and processes.
• Monitor compliance with evolving data privacy regulations and advise internal stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulators, customers and internal teams on privacy matters.
• Manage data subject access requests and other individual rights requests.
• Lead investigation, notification, mitigation and reporting of data breaches, and maintain the Data Breach Incident Response Plan.
• Maintain records of data processing activities to satisfy legal documentation obligations.
• Design and deliver role‑specific privacy training and internal communications.
• Collaborate with IT, Security, Legal, Product, Marketing and HR to embed privacy into systems and initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years (72 months) of experience in data privacy, compliance or related legal functions.
• Proven expertise in GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and Ghanaian privacy regulations.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess privacy risks and recommend improvements.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with regulators, senior management and cross‑functional teams.
• Experience in the telecommunications sector is a plus.
