Senior Specialist, Mining Construction

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is recruiting a Senior Specialist, Mining Construction for the Obuasi Mine (Projects department, Kumasi and Ashanti Region). This is a fixed-term position whose objective is to lead and oversee the coordination and execution of mining projects so that infrastructure and operational initiatives are delivered safely, on time and cost-effectively. The role also provides expert advice on compliance with approved designs, engineering standards and the Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I. 2182).

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of construction procedures and documentation to support management against deliverables and milestones, while promoting safety culture and hazard awareness in the underground environment.
• Allocate at least 30% of time to site safety compliance and maintain a minimum of 60% underground presence.
• Facilitate communication between project engineering, planning and construction teams, and collaborate with QA/QC engineers to maintain compliance documentation and avoid rework.
• Develop detailed plans covering timelines, resources and budget allocations, and prepare and manage Level 6 schedules.
• Identify and resolve issues such as delays, worker safety, supply chains and contractor demands, and ensure compliance through project documentation, risk assessments and Project Work Instructions.
• Select tools, materials and processes, track inventory, monitor expenditure against approved budgets and report on work programme progression and risk controls.
• Support business improvement initiatives, and lead operational readiness, commissioning and handover of mining infrastructure.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining, Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering; additional training in project management or underground infrastructure planning is desirable.
• PMP or GHIE certification, and a Mine Captain or Engineering Superintendent certificate of competency, are advantages.
• Minimum 7 years' experience in underground mining, with exposure to infrastructure or project-focused roles and practical underground construction experience.
• Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence as required by the site.
• Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements, and able to work underground and travel between work areas.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and the MS Office suite.
• Ability to identify and interpret safety risks, interpret data and make sound short-term tactical decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and analytical mindset focused on design accuracy and compliance.
