Assistant Librarian

About the role

The University of Ghana Library System seeks an Assistant Librarian to provide operational support across its campuses. The role contributes to the library’s strategic objectives by promoting resources, delivering instruction, and supporting research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Promote library resources to the university community.
• Provide library instruction and information literacy training.
• Use relevant software tools to engage students and faculty and improve teaching and learning.
• Provide research support to academic departments.
• Contribute to the profession through research, publishing and extension activities.
• Deliver reference services and act as a subject librarian.
• Supervise shelving and shelf‑reading activities.

Required profile

• Current staff of the University of Ghana, having served at the grade of Senior Library Assistant or higher for at least two years.
• First degree plus a research master’s (MPhil) in Librarianship, Information Studies, Library Studies or a related discipline.
• Minimum two years of relevant post‑qualification work experience.
• Chartered membership of a library professional association (e.g., Ghana Library Association) with at least two years of membership.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
• Experience using library management systems.
