About the role

HAPPY Program is hiring a full-time butcher for its retail business in the Accra and Tema region. The role covers receiving and preparing meat, maintaining chilled and frozen stock, keeping the work area clean and serving customers. Working locations include Spintex, North Kaneshie, Weija, East Legon, Frafraha and Tema Comm 25.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and inspect meat deliveries for freshness, condition, temperature, packaging and supporting documents, reporting concerns immediately.
• Cut, trim, debone, portion, mince and prepare meat products to customer requirements and approved specifications.
• Package, label, weigh and price products accurately, with correct product names and dates.
• Maintain chilled and frozen storage temperatures and rotate stock by first-expiry-first-out.
• Clean and sanitise work surfaces, knives, saws, mincers, weighing scales and display cases before, during and after use.
• Keep raw and ready-to-eat products separate and follow safe handling, hygiene and cross-contamination prevention procedures.
• Monitor display quality, replenish products and give courteous advice to customers.
• Record wastage, stock usage, returns and temperature checks, and report equipment faults, shortages and food-safety risks.

Required profile

• Practical butchery training or hands-on experience in a butcher shop, supermarket or meat-processing environment.
• Knowledge of meat cuts, portioning, safe knife handling, sanitation and cold-chain practices.
• Ability to operate butchery tools safely and perform physical tasks while standing for long periods.
• Good customer service, attention to detail, personal cleanliness and willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
