Chief Risk Officer

About the role

A full-time Chief Risk Officer position based in the Accra and Tema region, within the banking, finance and insurance sector. The role covers the development of the risk management framework, monitoring of credit and operational risks, and leading the risk function.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the company's risk management strategy, policies, frameworks and procedures.
• Identify, assess, monitor and report on credit, operational, liquidity, fraud, market and reputational risks.
• Establish risk appetite, limits, indicators and escalation procedures with management and the Board.
• Monitor the loan portfolio quality, including PAR, non-performing loans, defaults and recovery performance.
• Review credit policies, lending criteria, underwriting processes and loan approval controls.
• Ensure compliance with Bank of Ghana requirements and other relevant laws and regulations.
• Develop early-warning systems for deteriorating loan performance and emerging threats.
• Work with Credit, Finance, Internal Audit and Compliance teams to strengthen internal controls.
• Investigate significant risk incidents, suspected fraud and control weaknesses, and recommend corrective action.
• Prepare risk reports for senior management and the Board, promote a risk-aware culture and lead and develop the risk management team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Banking, Business Administration or a related field; a master's degree or professional certification is an advantage.
• At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in risk management, credit risk, banking or financial services, including leadership experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of microfinance lending, credit assessment, loan portfolio monitoring and recovery processes.
• Experience developing risk policies, monitoring risk indicators and reporting to senior management or a Board.
