Credit Officer

About the role

A Credit Officer is needed in Accra to receive, assess and process loan applications from individuals, groups and businesses, and to monitor repayments and portfolio quality. The role involves field visits, credit appraisals and reporting, and requires meeting agreed targets for loan processing, customer service and repayment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, review and process loan applications from individuals, groups and businesses
• Assess applicants' financial capacity, income, cash flow, repayment ability, credit history and obligations
• Conduct field visits to verify clients' businesses, addresses, employment and supporting documents
• Analyse financial records to determine creditworthiness and prepare credit appraisal reports with recommendations on approval or rejection
• Ensure applications meet eligibility criteria and documentation requirements
• Explain loan terms, repayment schedules, interest rates and charges to clients
• Monitor disbursements and follow up on timely repayment; identify overdue accounts and support collection and recovery
• Maintain accurate customer and loan records, flag default risks and escalate concerns to the supervisor
• Build positive client relationships and meet targets for loan processing, portfolio quality, customer service and repayment performance

Required profile

• HND or Bachelor's degree in Banking and Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field
• At least 1-3 years of relevant experience in credit analysis, loan administration, microfinance, banking or collections; entry-level candidates with relevant internship experience may be considered
• Knowledge of credit assessment, loan documentation, repayment monitoring and debt recovery
• Willingness to conduct field visits and client assessments
